New Words
I've added new words to the Mike to English Dictionary: fun size and shart.
For St Patrick's Day I had dinner at Britt and Kate's house. Kate made a fantastic dinner of homemade noodles with venison! (The entertainment of the evening was learning how to make the noodles properly. Apparently, the dough needs to be worked until it has a peaches and cream complexion. Only then do you put it in the Noodle Queen.) She even made a spectacular dairy free chocolate moose! I'll try to get the recipe. Unlike the last party I attended at their house where I drowned my chair in rain and had to have Hans push me home, I thought ahead this time and wrapped the controls in a plastic bag. I made it home safely and satiated.

Vote (or Don't)
Today is the deadline to vote on what to do with the viaduct here in New Seattle. Normally, I would tell you to vote goddamn it, but this election represents everything people hate about voting. This is a vote for two options (the tunnel or the elevated highway) that are equally flawed, that others are better qualified to decide on, and in the end, on which our opinions count for nothing. This election serves only to dissolution voters on the whole voting system, which is far too great a cost compared to the gain of a few opinions. So for this one, I say vote or don't.

On The Planet Mike, everyday is randomly assigned a letter and a color. For instance, today was "Blue H." This makes it harder to counterfeit future events since only a select group of individuals know what the color and letter will be for a given day in advance. (Counterfitting the future used to be a big problem here. Aliens would role the date forward to the weekend and everyone would take the day off. They got a full six months ahead of Earth before someone caught on that tulips don't bloom at Halloween.) I'll post color and letter combinations from time to time, and you geniuses can start cracking away at the pattern.
If you are ever curious what the color and letter of the day are over here, hop on a Metro bus and take a transfer. The color and letter are the same.

Today's impressive scientific story of the "wingman effect" comes from Hans. In his words, "Evidently, there is a species of bird in which alpha males and beta males cooperate to get the ladies, but only the alpha males get to mate. The argument in the article appears to be that the beta males get a delayed reproductive benefit, by learning from the alpha."
Here on The Planet Mike, wingmen actually have wings, though they're not men. They're more like the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz (also in an emerald city, oddly enough).
