Synesthesia
I learned recently that I have a condition called synesthesia! For me, letters of the alphabet and consequently words have colors associated with them. The letter A, for instance, is red. Words like apple, atom, autumn, and aardvark are also all red. T is kind of a muddy gold. Z is a dark blue. Days of the week also have heights! Monday is really tall. Tuesday is quite a bit shorter. Cool, huh? I thought of this the other day as I described listening to the new Maroon 5 album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, as deep red with a shiny silver curve running through it.
I added my first K (light blue) word to my dictionary: kerning (also light blue). Have I mentioned I'm a closet font nerd wannabe?

ROUS's Bigger Than MLK Thought
Just in time for the day when we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr, the famous African-American who, here on The Planet Mike, fought for the rights of ROUS's (Rodents of Unusual Size) to be treated no different than other Rodentia (i.e. having the opportunity to be used in labs for experiments, being hated universally as pests and disease carriers, etc.), scientists have learned that ROUS's came in sizes much larger than previously thought. In the historical documentary, The Princess Bride, ROUS's were depicted as weighing only several hundred pounds. According to new scientific evidence, these animals may have weighed over 2000 pounds, about the weight of a small elephant! I think MLK would be proud to know that his dream was even bigger than he imagined.

Here on The Planet Mike, the new year is not celebrated like it is on Earth. Instead of doing something nice, like going out to dinner to Chandler's with close friends and eating and drinking the night away, generally people watch giant holographic projections of bunny vs. goldfish battles. At first, you might think this fight a shoe-in for the bunnies, but it really comes down to where the round is fought -- land or water. In water, the goldfish really just needs to hold out long enough. Even on land they occasionally throw a surprise left hook.
But, personally, I prefer hanging out with friends.
