A More Perfect Union
Barak Obama is a magnificent orator. In his brilliant speech, "A More Perfect Union" posted below, he eloquently addresses issues of race in America, uses the language of spirituality and religion to show a moral right to his liberal viewpoints, flatters the intelligence of Americans by appealing to our common practice of accepting gross contradictions in our lives, and ultimately offers hope that if we not set aside but acknowledge and embrace our differences we can unite to create real change that will benefit us all. His message is powerful enough that future president or not, he is already inspiring Americans to take ownership of their lives in ways we haven't seen since the JFK era.
Just watch a little...

Happy Sweater Day!
Today would be the 80th birthday of a man that had a profound influence on my childhood, Fred Rogers. Mostly, I LOVED his trolley and made many different versions out of anything I could find that was either red or rectangular. Now, I realize that many of his important messages slipped in on the way to the Neighborhood of Make Believe. I believe I owe much of my patience, trust in the goodness of people, respect for children, and curiosity about the world (think Picture-Picture or trips to Handy Man Negri's shop) to Mr. Rogers and the television show he created.
According to an article I found, Applebee's is encouraging people to wear sweaters today to Honor Mr. Rogers. Only a cardigan would help make this first day of spring a more beautiful day in the neighborhood. (Oh, and less rain would help, too.)

Happy Pi Day!
Pi Day (3/14) is a big deal here on the Planet Mike! Pi is a ratio that helps define the relationship between the diameter and circumference of a circle (pi=C/d). The main way people here celebrate is throwing frozen hot dogs to calculate pi, and then eating pie. I won the contest at work to see who knew pi to the most decimal places (32), even beating a coworker who was copying it off her internet connected phone as quickly as possible. Another coworker claims she could have beaten me had she been present. In any case, I wish you a happy Pi Day and leave you with this final thought:
