Scarecrow
Ryan helped me make this scarecrow in the yard last night to guard the corn. While he looks totally awesome in this photo, as is, soon the corn will overtake him since he's only 4 feet tall. Lucky for him, he's getting a new backbone tonight!

Best Toy Store Ever
I went to Top Ten Toys up on Greenwood & 85th today looking for a squirt gun. I couldn't find any. When I asked, they told me their delightfully forward-thinking policy: "We have a non-violence policy in the toys we carry, so we don't carry any toy guns, bows and arrows or swords."
I thought, "You're right! I don't need to promote violence, even if it is just with squirt guns." Instead, I bought something WAY better.

RIP, Venetia Phair - Thank you for Pluto
This news comes a bit late, but nonetheless sad. On April 30 of this year, 90 year-old Venetia Phair, the girl who named Pluto, died. We have her to thank for much of America's warm feelings towards this dwarf planet.
According to the New York Times, "On March 14, 1930, the day newspapers reported that the long-suspected “trans-Neptunian body” had been photographed for the first time, she proposed to her well-connected grandfather that it be named Pluto, after the Roman god of the underworld.
"And so it was."
I came across this news on the web site of my favorite store, the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company.
